The fact that an office is a place where hard work happens and commercial decisions are made does not preclude the possibility of introducing some colour to brighten up the place and inspire the people working there. No need to go for full-on technicolour if you don’t feel it is appropriate but every kind of office interior can be pepped up by a clever introduction of colour in all the right places.
Walls and floors
Adding some well-chosen pieces of art on the walls can inject real personality into an otherwise bland office interior. You could go even further and create a feature wall using a bright colour for inspiration, or a relaxing one to promote calm efficiency. Rugs can brighten up a worn-out floor without breaking the budget, but make sure they don’t become a tripping hazard.
Desks and tables
Depending on the type of work that goes on in the office and the amount of direct contact your team has with the general public, you might like to encourage people to personalize their working spaces with colourful postcards, stationery holders and photo frames. Add some cheap and easy colour to communal tables with some bright drinks coasters and buy a set of colourful mugs to cheer up coffee breaks.
Reception and public areas
This is the first area that visitors to your office see, so make the most of the available space and provide them with a warm and colourful welcome. Use any corporate colour themes to inform your reception area redesign and seek the input of reception colleagues too, as they are the people who will have to live with the new scheme.
This is another space that would benefit hugely from a more imaginative look and feel. Encourage people to bring in colourful mugs and pates if the office does not provide them and add posters or pictures that will brighten up the area and offer some fun talking points. Go back to nature and have a large bowl of fruit available to tempt hungry colleagues with a healthier mid-morning snack.
All in the detail
Who says stationery needs to be boring? Look out for colourful folders and files and invest in some quirky bits and pieces like neon drawing pins and post-it notes, different colour pens and highlighters. Even things like safety deposit boxes, pencil sharpeners and pen pots can be found in unusual colours to inject some fun into the working day.
